Poetry Thursday #76

Absenteeism isn’t something I’m proud of – I don’t like missing things that are important.  So I’ve been a bad, bad, blogger.  Things to write about aren’t coming easy to me lately, and I’ve been finding my writer’s block to be more self-inflicted if anything.  Sometimes it’s hard to express myself.  Here’s a poem I wrote, that sort of expresses how I feel, but it took me a long time to write something that’s only mediocre.  Oh well, it’s better to share something than never anything again.

The Dress
A sleek blue dress on show
through the window sill,
gazing into a world
I have never known.

Beautiful, confident, sexy -
framed so petite and girly,
made for all those people
I could never be.

Fallen shoulders, a defeated sigh,
I gaze, longing behind the glass
at the beauty I can’t have.
It isn’t carried in my size.

Poetry Thursday #75

I forgot to post this yesterday, so I know this isn’t technically Thursday, but who likes technicalities anyways?

I haven’t felt up to writing for a long time, so I’m not going to make promises to keep up with my blog – I know I’m not going to follow through with them right now.  But I’ll try not to be a stranger I suppose.  Hope everyone out there is doing well! 

Don’t Turn Away
Grasping for your hand
clawing at your skin -
trickles of blood
underneath my finger nails.
Don’t let those small
fragments of skin embedded
beneath those half-moons
be the last piece of you
I will ever know.
Don’t turn away.

Sinking in those feelings,
remorse and pools of regret -
don’t let me go without
another second chance.
I never meant to blame you;
I thought I could see
with my eyes closed tight.
I’m hanging on by one finger
clasped tightly on the edge.
Don’t turn away.

Please don’t make me
beg anymore, don’t let me
make those same mistakes again.
I didn’t know my heart,
shattered from the past
could break into smaller pieces.
I didn’t know I could die again.
Don’t give up on me,
I don’t want to let you go -
don’t turn away.

Poetry Thursday #74

Long time, no see everyone.  Reclaiming my life is taking its sweet ass time, but I suppose slow progress is better than no progress.  Anyways, here’s a poem for once!  This is also my entry for Thursday Poets Rally Week 60.

Ripples & the Anchor
Lurking beneath my waters, still
below the trenches, an echo
beating against crumbling walls. A
name – buried but not forgotten.

Still waters ripple; tiny drops
of chaos against calm waters –
disturbing the tranquility
of a heart finally at peace

Murmurs of that name, whispers in the
distance – stray thoughts of the wicked,
and dreams of those forgotten seas;
a heart guilty of straying thoughts.

I have no faith, but yet I pray
for this anchor to hold me down,
stop me seeking those perfect storms
that both thrill and destroy my heart.

Poetry Thursday #73

December has not been my month at all.  With the extra stress of Christmas, I’ve been working more, and have just been so exhausted.  And now there’s a bit of a family crisis, I just have not felt inspired to write anything at all.  But I do apologize, I make promises to write more and to read other blogs more, and I have not fulfilled those promises.  So for that, I am sincerely sorry.  I also feel bad that I haven’t contributed to Flavor Internationale, a blog I have agreed to write for.  I still plan on writing for it, and I’m really excited to do so, but I haven’t been able to – so again, I am sorry.

With that, I do have one poem I’d like to share this week.  I’m not overly impressed with it, but I haven’t shared anything in a while so I thought this would suffice.  I usually participate in the Thursday Poets Rally, but I know that if I did I wouldn’t have the time to read all the amazing work being shared this week.  So perhaps next time!  I was nominated for an award for my last entry, so thank you – you can check out the post here as well as my acceptance: You’ve Taken My Voice.

Three Words
Heavy words fall on quivering lips.
The weight of those words
met with knots in my stomach.

They push upon my heart,
each aorta struggling
to find its regular rhythm.

These words are dangerous;
they tear through my body,
desperately wanting to be heard.

These words are coated in fear -
fear those three words won’t
be echoed back from your lips.

Poetry Thursday #72

It feels like forever since I’ve posted a new poem on my blog.  Although forever is a relative term, because for me it feels like one long-ass day that just won’t seem to end.  But there is light at the end of my tunnel, soon it shall be a new year, and there are lots of things to look forward to.  I for one am extremely excited about 2012 – and even if the world will “end” that year, at least I can hope it’ll be a good one. 

I wasn’t going to post anything yet again, as I’ve had little time or inspiration to write anything lately.  But inspiration found me today, and I felt like I needed to let it out.  So I hope you enjoy this poem, and I hope everyone out there is doing well!  I apologize for my extreme delay once again in reading my fellow bloggers posts, I hope to find the time to catch up soon. 

You’ve Taken My Voice
Silence me, stifle me, suffocate me.
Police me with your policies,
sling your meaningless jargon at me,
strike me down with your false mandates.
Punish my passionate side -
erasing my vibrant reds and purples,
exchange them for black, khakis and blues.
Treat my protests as mere aggression,
sweep my personality under the rug
like your forgotten heart and soul.
Choke my essence out of me
with your greed tainted fingers,
stare me down with your soulless eyes.
Suck out my being with every
negative breath you take;
beat me until I’m broken -
steal me until I’m silenced
just like you.

Though my heart is hurting, 

and my body aches in sorrow,

this honour gives me strength

and hope for a brighter tomorrow.
